10 Things That Happen At Every Event (And No One Admits)

…but we all know they happen. Always.

Organizing an event is like preparing a royal wedding while jogging, writing a poem and putting out a fire. Every detail is studied with love, every moment is calibrated… and then reality arrives. The one made of unexpected events, irresistible clichés and small big disasters. Here are 10 things that happen at every event and that no one will ever really admit.

1. The mystery guest who “wasn’t on the list” but shows up with Olympian confidence

“Hi! I’m the photographer’s cousin’s friend. He told me I could come.” (Oh yeah? He told us too? No.)

2. Someone arrives dressed as if they were at a completely different event

Dress code: elegant. He shows up in faded jeans and a padel polo.

Or: casual dress code. She arrives in a long dress with sequins, more red carpet than rooftop

3. There is always a time when everyone goes to the bathroom at the same time

It’s a mystery of social physics: does the buffet start? Is the speech over? Does the dancing begin? Everyone, in unison: “Excuse me, where’s the bathroom?”

4. The microphone makes that exorcism sound right at the beginning of the most important speech

“Good evening everyone… EEEOOOWWWWWKRRRSSSS …we are honored…” And there the technical panic begins, with someone who dives under the DJ’s table trying to fix everything, with the same stealth of a secret agent… but in a jacket and sweat.

5. The buffet ends too early / too late / with too many salads

Whatever you choose, it’s not good. There’s always someone who says:– “Not much, huh?”– “But only finger food?”– “Were there no vegan, keto, paleo, gluten-free, and soy-free options?

6. Someone asks for Wi-Fi password within 3 minutes of arrival

And not to work. But to post a story with filter, tag, location and 6 hashtags. \#eventolife #wearehere #nonmifunziona

7. The official photos start right when your mouth is full

Never when you are relaxed and smiling. Always with a canapé in hand and a “I’m trying not to spit olives while talking to the birthday boy” face.

8.There is always a relative / colleague who takes the microphone… and never lets it go

“I actually had a few words prepared…” 20 minutes later, we’re still hearing anecdotes from 2009 about when he got his driver’s license.

9. There's always one kid who steals the show from everyone

Bride and groom parade? The little one runs in front. First dance? He gets in the middle and starts spinning. Speech? He yells “Mommy pee!” at the climax. And no one gets mad, because he’s adorable. And because we kind of expected it.

10. In the end, everyone pretends to leave… but there are another 40 minutes left

“Last chat and we’re off!” The post-evening follows, an improvised digestive, endless chatter and photos in front of the exit with the staff starting to fold the tables.

Conclusion

Every event is a little universe made of emotion, chaos and spontaneity. And that's what makes it unique. So, the next time one of these 10 things happens, smile and think: everything is going as planned. Or almost.😎
